Serving Young Women in Crisis, Westport

Project Return is a safe, structured environment where young women in crisis gain the skills needed to live independently. By providing employment resources, educational resources and training, temporary housing and food, young women learn the life skills necessary to secure sustainable housing.

Emergency Shelter Programs

Gillespie Center & Hoskins’ Place

Single Men and Women’s Shelter, Westport

Gillespie Center is HwH’s 15-bed emergency shelter for single men, located at 45 Jesup Road, Westport.

Hoskins’ Place, located in the same building, is our 4-bed emergency shelter for single women.

The Bacharach Community

Shelter for Single Mothers and Their Children, Westport

The Bacharach Community is made up of four homes located on Wassell Lane and the Post Road in Westport. This program provides emergency shelter for up to six families. The homeless mothers and their children who seek shelter at Bacharach are provided with safe emergency housing and professional Masters-level casework services.

Linxweiler House

Extension of the Bacharach Community, Westport

Part of the Bacharach Community Linxweiler House provides emergency shelter for homeless mothers and their children who seek shelter at Bacharach are provided with safe emergency housing and professional Masters-level casework services.

Permanent Supportive Housing

Powell Place

Westport

Powell Place (f/k/a Saugatuck Apartments) is HwH’s initial program providing permanent supportive housing. Formerly homeless, mentally ill individuals and families live with a lease in independent housing. They receive support from a professionally trained, Master’s-level case manager. HwH currently operates nine units in our model program.

Westport Rotary Centennial House

Westport

Westport Rotary Centennial House has been in operation since 2009. This permanent supportive housing facility at 10 West End Avenue in Westport provides 2 two-bedroom family units and 4 one-bedroom units for singles or couples. Tenants receive the same professional case management services that all of our supportive housing tenants experience.

Fair Street Apartments

Norwalk

Fair Street Apartments is a 57-unit affordable housing facility located in Norwalk where Homes with Hope operates 5 units of permanent supportive housing for singles. Tenants receive the same professional case management services that all of our supportive housing tenants experience.

Hales Court

Westport

Hales Court is a 78-unit affordable housing complex owned and operated by the Westport Housing Authority. HwH began operation of 10 permanent supportive housing apartments, 2 for families and 8 for individuals, within this complex in October 2011. Tenants receive the same professional case management services that all of our supportive housing tenants experience.

Hayes Avenue

Norwalk

Hayes Avenue was Homes with Hope’s first acquisition in Norwalk in its effort to expanded its Permanent Supportive Housing program. The two units will house one individual and one family.

sasco creek village

Sasco Creek Village

Westport

Sasco Creek Village opened in July 2015. This location in Westport has 6 units of permanent supportive housing serving individuals and families. Tenants receive the same professional case management services that all of our supportive housing tenants experience.

Food

The Community Kitchen

Westport

The Community Kitchen has been operated by Homes with Hope since 1983. Serving 30,000 meals a year, it is operated at the Gillespie Center, 45 Jesup Road, and is open to all who need a meal. Volunteers from numerous organizations in our community take turns preparing lunches and dinners every day of the year. Lunch is served promptly at 12 noon and dinners are served each night at 5 pm. There is usually a hot pot of coffee available.

The Food Pantry

Westport

The Food Pantry is also located at the Gillespie Center and is supplied by a variety of food collection and donation drives in Westport and surrounding Fairfield County. One bag of groceries per week is available to anyone who requests it at the Gillespie Center, 45 Jesup Road, Westport. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 1–4 pm.

Mentoring

Women’s Mentoring Initiative

Westport

Women’s Mentoring Initiative is Homes with Hope’s program designed to support clients and other women at risk who are struggling to create stable and self-sufficient lives. Through weekly one-on-one meetings, trained volunteer mentors under the supervision of an HwH program director, offer compassion, guidance and friendship, fostering confidence and self-reliance.
