How to Give

Homes with Hope accomplishes its mission through the abundant compassion of local families, faith-based congregations, businesses and organizations that have come together to help persons in acute or chronic distress. HwH is the extended family for homeless families and individuals who have exhausted the compassion of their caregivers. HwH depends on ongoing contributions to support the facilities and supportive services we provide that enable homeless people in the communities we serve to achieve an independent and self-sufficient life.

Remember, many companies will match donations to Homes with Hope; so ask at your workplace.

Troy Fancher Celebrates Legacy with Hope

Troy Fancher
Celebrates Legacy with Hope

Homes with Hope has announced that Troy Fancher, a resident of Southport and a former Board Chair of the agency, has become the first member of HwH’s new Planned Giving Program known as Legacy with Hope. Since serving on the Board in the mid 1990s, Troy has remained a regular supporter of the organization. “I am still committed to the mission of serving the homeless population of lower Fairfield County. So while in the process of estate planning I was presented with the unexpected opportunity to include Homes with Hope in my will. I thought, ‘why not?’ I’ve always considered them family.” “This simple act,” Troy confides, “is a small but personal way of maintaining a legacy to a group of people dedicated to helping others.”

“I greatly enjoyed my time on the board of Homes with Hope because I always got back more than I gave,” said Fancher. “What better way to help continue that activity and acknowledge the service that the organization has been providing to the most underserved population in our community for the past 25 years. I love the idea of finding another way to help ensure the future health of this great organization.”

Jeff Wieser, the new President and CEO of Homes with Hope, saluted the vision of Troy. “I have had the pleasure of knowing Troy and his commitment to Homes with Hope for the past 16 years. This is a wonderful way to carry on a level of future financial support and encourage our staff and supporters by showing the depth of the community’s backing of HwH.”

Anyone interested in supporting Homes with Hope in this important endeavor should simply ask their legal advisor to include Homes with Hope as a beneficiary in their will or contact Jeff Wieser, at 203.226.3426 ext. 14 or

Donation of Cars

Do you have a car in good working order that no longer fits into your family’s plans? Please consider donating your car to Homes with Hope and help a person or family in need. HwH accepts donated cars that will pass Connecticut State Inspection and can be registered. The agency gives the donated cars directly to our clients to own and use; at no time do we sell donated cars. Cars should be in good condition because those who receive them, the homeless and those at risk of homelessness, don’t have much extra money for repairs.

Sometimes, the gift of a car is just the right thing to help a client get off to work, pick up their kids at school or daycare and get to the grocery store. Not all of our clients are appropriate for a car donation because they have more immediate needs that must be taken care of before a car is actually helpful. We carefully screen all recipients for suitability so that we don’t unnecessarily burden someone who is not yet ready to financially handle an automobile.

The gift of a car is tax deductible within the parameters of the IRS tax code. Homes with Hope will provide the donor with an acknowledgment letter including the make and model of the car, vehicle identification number, and a statement certifying the vehicle was given in an arm’s length transaction between unrelated parties.

We would love to talk to you further about donating your car to Homes with Hope. Please call Paris Looney, Vice President/COO at 203-226-3426 ext. 12 for more information.
