Continuum of Services

Permanent Supportive Housing

Saugatuck Apartments: This is HwH’s initial program providing permanent supportive housing.  Formerly homeless, mentally ill individuals and families live with a lease in independent housing.  They receive support from a professionally trained case manager.  HwH currently operates eight apartments in our model program.

Westport Rotary Centennial House: HwH opened its newest permanent supportive housing facility at 10 West End Avenue in Westport in September 2009 providing 2 two-bedroom family units and 4 one-bedroom units for singles or couples.  Tenants receive the same professional case management support that all of our permanent supportive housing tenants experience.

Fair Street Apartments: HwH serves 5 units of permanent supportive housing for individuals  in this 57-unit affordable housing facility located in Norwalk that opened in the fall of 2010.  Tenants receive the same professional case management services that all of our supportive housing tenants experience.

Hales Court: HwH provides case management to tenants of 10 permanent supportive housing apartments, 2 for families and 8 for individuals or couples, within this 78-unit affordable housing complex owned and operated by the Westport Housing Authority.  Tenants receive the same professional case management services that all of our supportive housing residents experience.

Emergency Shelter

Gillespie Center: HwH maintains 15 beds for men in this emergency shelter that generally operates at over 100% capacity.  HwH provides social services and casework in this 24-hour facility.

Hoskins’ Place: This 4-bed emergency shelter for women is next door to the men’s facility and offers the same services.

Bacharach Community: Located on Wassell Lane in Westport; these three homes provide emergency shelter for up to four families.  These mothers and their children are in need of safe emergency housing and caseworker assistance. HwH expanded this program to include the Linxweiler House on the Post Road in April 2009, sheltering one to two additional families.

Food

Community Kitchen: HwH operates the Community Kitchen at the Gillespie Center and serves 30,000 meals annually.  Volunteers from numerous organizations in our community take turns preparing lunches and dinners; breakfast is always available through the resources of our Food Pantry.

Food Pantry: HwH maintains a Food Pantry at the Gillespie Center that is supplied by a variety of food collection and donation drives in Westport and surrounding Fairfield County.

Training

EDGE/PRIDE: Is a collaboration with Laurel House in Stamford, this program provides employment and educational training.

Mentoring

Women’s Interfaith Network (WIN): A program designed to support HwH clients and other women at risk who are struggling to create stable and self-sufficient lives.  Through weekly one-on-one meetings, trained volunteer mentors under the supervision of an HwH program director, offer compassion, guidance and friendship, fostering confidence and self-reliance.
